This is a view from the plane of what I think are the Lesser Antilles … my guess obviously based on the shape of the islands and the time during the flight when I saw them … for we were half way through our crossing so it could not possibly be the Bahamas. Mapping the Caribbean … is a difficult thing and I don´t mean the physical geographical act of mapping but a rather figurative one. A mental map of the Caribbean …(?) is it possible, would it be clear and ordered? I am sceptical of clear “maps” of things… for what lies behind their order? Finding alternative routes… is always interesting, something new can always be seen.
There is so much cultural, racial and linguistic (etc…,.) mixture in the Caribbean … maps cannot show all the complexity. T&T was filled with contrasts. I felt … how can I begin to describe it? I shall attempt to new postings to come!
